Community
Volunteering . . .
Mike Jensen has a continued history of being an integral part of and volunteering numerous services in the community in various ways, including the following:
Mike provides 2 hours a month at a local Senior Center of pro bono legal consultations, usually to six individuals each month who have legal questions or problems.
Mike also offers time to local schools and churches in non-legal capacities.
Mike has given presentations at BYU and most recently at the Annual Conference of the Utah Aging Alliance
Mike expresses his personal enjoyment from the following:
I so enjoyed writing a monthly column for the Utah Spirit Magazine and this gave me the opportunity to research and write more than a hundred articles that were published, all of which are now available on our web site.
I also had embraced the opportunity to serve on the Board of the Sarah Daft Home, the oldest assisted living facility in the State of Utah and which offers services to low income individuals. This provided me with a unique insight to the operations of assisted living facilities and the needs of those elderly persons who have to rely on others to maintain their activities of daily living.
Most recently, I served on the Board of the Utah Aging Alliance, formerly the Utah Gerontological Society, and then I was asked to serve as Treasurer. Most of my predecessors served for only two years, but I was asked to stay on for a total of four years. It was a great experience to see and work with many professionals who serve our elderly community throughout the State of Utah.
One of the highlights of my community experience was to serve six years on the Board of the Alzheimer’s Association and as its President for one of those years. This service gave me the opportunity to learn a lot more about the terrible disease of Alzheimer’s and the resources in our community to support the families affected by this disease.
I have also been fortunate to being involved in the legislative process for elderly issues, particularly having initiated and drafted important amendments to Utah’s Probate Code, including provisions in the areas of guardianships, conservatorships, and powers of attorney.
Lastly, but not least important, I am thankful to regularly engage in the service of my church where I have been able to serve others in various capacities, all of which have enriched my life immensely and given me a broader perspective for my clients when helping them with their legal problems.
